As the 1920’s drew to a close, commercial development in Oklahoma City rode a wave of optimism and prosperity, and the west end of downtown emerged as the city’s principal shopping district. Today, fueled by over $2 billion in public and private MAPS dollars invested in downtown, the west end is poised to rise again. Already completed construction and remodeling of the Civic Center, Oklahoma City Museum of Art, The American Choral Directors Association, The Ron Norick Library, Stage Center and others will be further enhanced with the addition of the Art’s Quarter newest landmark ~ Film Row. Launched in 2004, the OKC Film District Task Force has teamed with the City to make downtown’s newest attraction a reality. Industry professionals expect the district to attract millions of dollars in film and music related productions side by side with tourism and ancillary opportunities. The district has even expanded to accommodate changes in the I-40 relocation which will make Walker Avenue the major tributary to the west end, as well as all of downtown.
